Ógras was established by Conradh na Gaeilge (The Gaelic League) in 1969 to afford the opportunity to young people between 13 and 19 years of age to come together in youth clubs operating through the medium of Irish. Óg-Ógras was established in 1988 for children between the ages of 8 and 12.
Ógras organises a wide range of fun and educational events throughout the country for young people who wish to participate in a fresh and energetic Irish language youth movement.
'To promote Irish as the normal language of communication among the young and in that context, to give young people the opportunity to develop themselves as persons and leaders among the community.'

A drama competition 'Seó Árdáin' is being organised in every region and will be taking place in February 2012, for ógras and Óg-Ógras clubs. All clubs should try and take part as there are money and cup prizes to be won.
