Members of Ógras' Steering Committee attend an evening in Aras an Uachtaráin hosted by President Mc Aleese and the former President of Latvia, Dr. Vaira Vike Freiberga.
On Thursday 13 December two members of the Ógras Steering Committee - Caoimhín Ó Cadhla and Cormac Ó Feinneadha attended a function in Áras an Uachtaráin.
The event was hosted by President McAleese to give the young people of Ireland an opportunity to dialogue with the former President of Latvia, Dr. Vaira Vike Freiberga. Dr. Vike-Freiberga spoke on the theme "Ideals versus Ideology".
Dr. Vike-Freiberga is an extraordinary woman and stimulating speaker whose background as a child-refugee in a divided Europe, as a linguist, as an academic, as a returned member of the Eastern European diaspora and as a former Head of State brought a distinctive perspective to the debate.
The address was followed by a Questions and Answers session led by President Mc Aleese and Dr. Vike-Freiberga. Participants were then invited to adjourn to the State Reception Rooms of the Áras for light refreshments and a performance by renowned musicians, Dónal Lunny and Dúchas.
The evening was a great success and the participants from Ógras thoroughly enjoyed the event.
